Royal Phil Orchestra became the first...... The first established orchestra with its own hall. It was founded in 1840 as a gentlemens club. In 1957 the phil was the first orchestra outside of London to receive its 'Royal' assent. The 'Phil' is also claimed to be acoustically The finest orchestral hall in Europe. 1994, the first orchestra to play underwater. Well, under the Birhenhead tunnel on the boundary between us and the wirral. A large cinema screen comes from underneath the the floor and was the only such screen in England...theres another one in Leningrad. AND it weighs 7 tons with all its ancillaries! So there
