OT Many years ago (the early seventies) Ron Taylor's boxing booth (the last travelling booth in the UK) built up at South Shields amusement park where a cheque was being presented from the showmen to Muhammed Ali who was doing a fund raising tour for the Boys' Clubs. Following the presentation I went for a drink with Ron's main lad (Steve Gwatkin I think his name was). Anyway I remember him telling me that his grandmother fought in the booth - taking on all comers! My memories goin'. It was 1977 Ali visited Shields. Just found this pic taken at Gypsy's Green Stadium on the BBC web site.
