A NEW agency backed by construction giant AMEC has submitted a planning application for a £80m office development in the heart of Liverpool's business quarter.
The project will transform a site next to the headquarters of the Littlewoods empire at 100 Old Hall Street.
The announcement of the scheme comes as a report by CB Richard Ellis shows regional office markets, including Liverpool and Manchester, are demonstrating a remarkable resilience in the face of increasing economic pressures.
The new scheme for Liverpool will mean the building of 300,000 sq ft of prime office space around a new public realm to be known as St Paul's Square.
There will also be some restaurant and cafe developments as well as up to 68 new apartments in the complex.
The development is being carried out by English Cities Fund, a body established in response to the Urban Task Force report by Lord Rodgers. That report called for inititiatives to develop urban sites in cities. St Paul's is one of five schemes proposed by English Cities Fund and the first in Liverpool.
