LIVERPOOL Culture Company has unveiled its latest education initiative that will touch the lives of all 40,000 schoolchildren in the city.
The Daily Post has the first photographs of the completed design, which will begin visiting schools later this month.
The Friend Ship, which takes over from the Community Globe programme that delighted the Capital of Culture judges, aims to teach pupils about cultural tolerance. City council leader Mike Storey said it is a major part of Liverpool's current Year of Faith in One City.
He said: "This unique initiative will engage 40,000 schoolchildren from each primary and special school across Liverpool as we build on the success of last year's Community Globe.
"On its journey, the Friend Ship will promote values of tolerance and diversity through exciting and stimulating classroom activities.
"The young people of Liverpool will appreciate other cultures and gain a real understanding of our city's distinctive past, exciting future and place in the world."
Children from all EU countries will be invited to join the city in aiming to knock down cultural barriers.
They will be invited to draw flags to be placed on the giant vessel, which will provide a space where children can sit and discuss issues such as family, identity, bullying, stereotypes, racism and language. Participants will enter their names and messages of friendship in a log.
Each visit will be accompanied by a teacher's pack, which will outline the aims and objectives of the project from a creative curriculum perspective.
