University of Liverpool research Fellow Peter Stoney called on the club (LIVERPOOL) to build a new home on the banks of the Mersey in the Central Docks system.
He also revived the controversial argument for Premier League rivals Liverpool and Everton to share a world-class stadium on a vacant site close to Waterloo Warehouse.
His comments came as new Everton chief executive Trevor Birch yesterday admitted a new stadium was vital for Everton to become a big club again and said he was "open minded" about a possible groundshare with Liverpool.
What the Stoney plan would mean
* A new stadium in the Central Docks system on a site north of Waterloo Warehouse and south of Collingwood Dock.
* A new railway station is proposed within walking distance of the stadium.
* Major heritage buildings within Central Docks would be enhanced with complementary world class architecture.
* The waterfront location with extended opening hours would attract substantially more tourists than Stanley Park.
* Non-match day income would be boosted through increased merchandising.
* The closeness of the Old Hall Street/Central Business district would mean a greater flow of corporate entertainment and sales of premium seating.
* A 1,000-place car park could be built under the stadium.
