Up to £50m is available for refurbishing homes and business properties from the govern-ment's housing market renewal initiative.
What does it mean for residents?
* Smithdown Road: A system of "lateral conversion", where two homes are built into one larger property, will be used to boost the local housing market. Homes will also be painted bright colours.
* Lodge Lane: A new housing estate, shop-ping and leisure village is planned to increase visitors and job prospects. Lodge Lane will be a centre for "Black and Ethnic Minority Enterprise", providing business and employment opportunities for those communities.
* Historic Quarter: The conservation area around Sefton Park Villas will extend to include Hart-ington Road, Fern Grove, Bentley Road, Kingsley Road, Seaport Street and Arundel Street with its junction at Princes Avenue. Creating a new conservation area around the Avenues at the north end of Sefton Park, where 74% of homes are unfit for habitation. It would cost up to £30m to bring them up to modern standards.
* Learning and Leisure Quarter: The council is considering two options - a new housing estate around Kingsley School or creation of a health and leisure quarter with a new sports centre and swimming pool.
* The Granby Triangle: The council hopes to retain most of the current properties and demolish as few as possible. More than £20m will be needed to carry out this proposal. The alternative is total demolition of the whole area, but this is opposed by Granby Residents Association and has already been ruled out by council officials.
* Heritage Trail: The master-plan proposes installing "high quality" sculptures along Princes Avenue and Princes Road and upgrading the paving, lighting, seating and landscaping. The plan also suggests a cafe or art gallery with public piazza at the city centre end.
