Regeneration in Dingle

Hello everyone, any members know any info about Dingle being regenerated? I understand that there has been an asssesment of the area and there are different proposals ( knocking certain streets down to redevelop the area or making basic improvements to existing houses) but I can't get much info from INclude site or other sites I've looked at. Any help would be appreciated.Cheers!

FOUR housebuilders have been named as lead contractors on the first phase of a planned £2.3bn scheme to regenerate Merseyside's housing market.

David Wilson Homes is joined by Bellway Homes, Gleeson and Keepmoat to carry out regeneration work on 300 acres of deprived areas of Liverpool.

The £50m first phase runs for two years and is part of a Government-backed scheme that aims to renew failed housing markets in nine of Britain's poorest sub regions.

The scheme is being overseen by New Heartlands, a council-led social landlord, and will create 20,000 new social and private homes in the city. As well as covering homes in Liverpool, the New Heartlands scheme includes parts of Sefton and Wirral.

Flo Clucas, Liverpool City Council's executive member for housing and neighbourhood services, said: "We are extremely pleased we have been able to appoint developers with outstanding reputations to work alongside us, the registered social landlords and the residents to transform housing in the inner city. The appointment of lead developers is vital in this project."

The money will be used for land clearance, site assembly and, where possible, refurbishment of existing housing stock.

David Shard, managing director of David Wilson Homes in the North West, said: "We shall lead a consortium of builders to deliver several thousand new homes and community infrastructure within our allocated section. We are delighted to be a major player in the regeneration of Liverpool."

The company has recently acquired land at the former RAF Burtonwood airbase, near Warrington, where it plans to build 2,000 homes.

Chris Snow, business development manager for Gleeson, said: "We are delighted to be selected as preferred developer. It's a fantastic opportunity. We expect to build 4,000 houses in the city centre south zone."

Gleeson will develop homes in Dingle, Toxteth, Smithdown Road and Sefton Park.

Gleeson has projects at Aintree Hospital and recently completed the redevelopment the Royal Liverpool University Hospital.

I don't know what they are doin, cos I'm living 200 miles away, but I do know that one of my nephews tried to get a job with one of the building firms, and got told,
"We dont employ anybody from round here kid!"
Cheecky bastards are happy enough to go in the Dingle/ Toxteth area for the cash though

A new £1m learning centre opens in Liverpool on Monday.
The Park Road Neighbourhood Learning Centre, in Dingle, boasts specialist teaching facilities, modern classrooms, disabled access and an IT suite.

The centre will offer tuition in a range of GCSE subjects, childcare and alternative therapy.

Funded by the Learning and Skills Council, it is one of only 16 projects nationwide to have been awarded a special government grant.

Centre managers say they are looking forward to welcoming people not only from the local community but from across the city.
