ONE of the world's best known architects is considering a move to design and build a replacement for Liverpool's doomed Fourth Grace scheme. Lord Richard Rogers is teaming up with property developer Capital & Provident to make another bid to deliver a scheme following the collapse in July of the Will Alsop's Cloud project due to escalating costs. The architect and property development firm were shortlisted in the original Fourth Grace design competition two years ago, but eventually lost out to the controversial Cloud concept. Lord Rogers is one of the world's most acclaimed architects. He designed the Pompidou Centre in Paris as well as the Lloyd's of London building in the City. He also designed Heathrow's new Terminal 5, the homes of the European Court of Human Rights in Strasbourg and the National Assembly of Wales in Cardiff. More recent projects include a 48-storey tower on Leadenhall Street in London, a new international airport at Madrid and the conversion of the bullring in Barcelona. Capital & Provident is currently building a 27-storey residential block and a 14-storey office development at Rumford Place in Liverpool city centre. Mike Stares, a director of Capital & Provident, said: "We have worked with Lord Rogers before and we have approached him about trying again at the Fourth Grace site and he is extremely keen. "We would have a good chance with this project as we have already demonstrated our commitment to Liverpool." .:more:.
