SEX and the City star Kim Cattrall has given a personal message of thanks to Liverpool as the series comes to an end.
Ms Cattrall, 45, who plays man-eating PR girl Samantha Jones, sent the message in an e-mail to Andrea Flannagan of the Newz bar in Water Street.
Ms Flannagan, who is one of a range of people around the city hosting farewell Sex and the City parties tonight at her sister bar, the Sir Thomas Hotel, received the message in thanks for her ongoing support of the show.
The message said: "Everybody on the team at HBO's Sex and the City would like to thank you all for your dedication and support to the series. It could not have existed without dedicated fans like yourselves.
"Ms Cattrall would like to individually pass on her thanks for your support and kindness and wishes your evening at the Sir Thomas Hotel every success and she hopes that you all enjoy it as much as she has enjoyed making the show over the years.
"As you may know Kim is very proud of her Liverpool heritage and she is touched that she has such dedicated followers there."
Ms Flannagan began hosting Sex and the City nights around three months ago at the Newz bar so Liverpool girls could meet up over Cosmopolitans in their Jimmy Choos to discuss the latest activities of Carrie, Samantha and Co.
She said she was delighted to receive recognition from Ms Cattrall and the Sex and the City team for her ongoing dedication to the show in Liverpool.
Ms Flannagan said: "I wrote to Ms Cattrall explaining about the theme nights I was running and about the party I am holding tonight at the Sir Thomas Hotel in Victoria Street. I received the reply earlier this week and was delighted by her kind words.
"Every girl in Liverpool can relate to at least one of the characters in the series because they are so diverse and there is such a cult following for the show in the city.
"A party to mark the end of the show is an ideal way for girls to get together, share the final episode and chat about it over cocktails.
"We are moving the party from the Newz bar to the hotel because we need a bigger venue and we can all watch together to see if Carrie and the girls end on a big note."
Merseyside is determined to say farewell to Sex and the City in style with parties happenning all over Liverpool.
In honour of the current storyline involving Samantha's battle with breast cancer the Hope Street Hotel is holding a party to raise money in aid of the disease.
Organiser Katie Connor said: "We've had a great response and in sync with the storyline it's a great opportunity to raise money for charity.
"The show has really touched the lives of women across Merseyside as it is an example of how friendship can overcome other things in life. Also glamour and escapism is important for all women who work hard."
Carolyn Hughes, who has also organised a farewell party at the Cotton Club beneath Prohibition in Bold Street, described the final episode as like "the World Cup final for women".
She said: "We will be showing the last ever episode on a full stage sized screen so it will be given the respect it deserves from the Merseyside faithful."
