MERSEYSIDE'S role as a hotspot for the bio-tech industry was boosted on a visit by UK Trade & Investment chief Sir Stephen Brown.
He was touring Speke pharmaceutical company Eli Lilly to see improvements to the production line that will make the drug Capreomycin.
The drug treats antibiotic-resistant strains of tuberculosis. Lilly will supply the World Health Organisation to help disadvantaged communities.
Sir Simon's next stop was the Estuary Commerce Park, home to the National Blood Centre and site for the National Biomanufacturing Centre due to open next spring.
The NBC will highlight Speke's position as Europe's largest concentration of biomanufacturing companies.
