From The Echo... AUTHORS are so convinced that Liverpool will land World Heritage status that they have gambled on a book about our "victory". The minute the final decision on Liverpool's bid is announced next month, the presses will begin to roll in Spain. The 144-page book, Liverpool: World Heritage City will then be flown over here and put on sale. Writer Lew Baxter and photographer Guy Woodland are the people behind it. Today Wirral-based Mr Woodland was convinced the gamble will pay off. He said: "Of course it's a gamble because it has to be mostly ready before the decision. It's a risk we thought worth taking, as did the city council and the group of visionary partners who are showing their faith in Liverpool." Already the Duke of Westminster and English Heritage boss Sir Neil Cossons have thrown their weight behind the book. The book will be a photographic tribute to the city, but will also include contributions from well-known writers and figures including Fourth Grace architect Will Alsop. The ECHO's Joe Riley has written a piece, while sculptor Steve Broadbent has designed an exclusive Liver Bird slip cover in steel, oak and ebony for a limited edition of 24 copies. Liverpool was made the UK's sole nomination for World Heritage status in January 2003. The bid will be considered by the World Heritage committee in China on June 28. If the bid fails, the book will still be published, but as a straight celebration of Liverpool 's remarkable heritage.
