LIVERPOOL will become the UK's first "wireless city" to mark the Biennial arts festival.
Anyone using a laptop, PDA or mobile phone can access broadband internet services without the need to physically connect to a phone line.
Nublu, the Hanover Street firm which transformed Amsterdam into Europe's first wireless city, is to repeat the process in Liverpool.
The firm will use wireless mesh-routing units to provide wireless network and broad-band services across the city.
Nublu director David Fox, said: "After a successful secret trial period with multiple users in Liverpool, we are now ready to go live."
The festival's "independent district" will be the first area in the UK to boast metropolitan wireless broadband services, and throughout the Biennial the service is free.
