Lets hope the powers that be were also watching .

I missed it, sorry. I've been in Wales this weekend The program tried to suggest, via an examination of what had happened to Quiggins, that the regeneration of Liverpool city centre was about business and profit NOT culture or people. Tell us something we didn't know.

I cant comment on the content of the programme... But When I got back from my trip, a relative of mine had said she saw it and she was 'spouting off' this information (negative) about Liverpool again, going on about the paradise street developmet blah blah THEN derek hatton. I just felt very disappointed

I missed any reference to Degsy, and you couldn't really expect representatives of Quiggins to be positive about the issue of a compulsory purchase order.
However, I am concerned about the Grosvenor development. Why do the traditional rights of way have to be replaced with 'public realm arrangements' policed by US-style 'quartermasters' with powers to exclude people from the area? They may say this is to keep the 'riffraff' out but it will also be used to deny the right to picket employers premises during legitimate trade disputes and prevent any political leafleting or protests in the area.

There was a point made by some of the contributors to the documentary, and that was that small independent retailer's etc are being forced outside the city centre. They are slowly being moved to the less profitable fringes away from the main throughfares . A valid point I thought.. The point Howie made about the Grosvenor's "private police force" proposal worries me too. It could be seen as exclusivity, your not dressed right your not coming in !! ...etc We all would like to see an end to the dippers and shoplifters .......but What exactly does keeping the "Riff Raff" out mean ?..... Kinda reminds me of the "No Blacks, Irish or dogs" signs of yesteryear.. Re: Derek Hatton ....... A much maligned Liverpool hero Have a look here : www.liverpool47.org/
