NATIONAL Museums Liverpool is launching a new business club as part of the city's preparations for the Capital of Culture year.
Known as Business2008, the new club is being set up by NML's chairman-elect, former Master Chef presenter Loyd Grossman. He takes over the post from David O'Donnell next April.
Mr Grossman said: "This is a new programme to engage businesses with NML in the run-up to 2008 and beyond. The year of culture is just the beginning of something very big and we very much want businesses of all sizes to join Business2008.
"Of all the great museum services in the world, NML is the most community-minded, focused and dedicated to improving life in the community. This club gives business the chance to engage in that work. It's good for their image and status with the people they work with and the people that work for them.
"This goes way beyond a fundraising exercise. Business is an important part of the whole community of Liverpool. We are eager for more funding so we can do more. Our ability to earn money will always be hampered by our commitment to free entry so that we don't exclude any members of the community.
"We are only just beginning to understand the new sort of philanthropy needed. We used to be entirely state-funded but now because we need more money than the Government is prepared to give us we need to find new ways of raising money.
"Businesses have to realise one of the reasons people like being in Liverpool is the cultural depth and quality that's unrivalled for a city of this size. Culture creates the context in which businesses can be successful."
Club members can benefit from a range of networking events. There are three tiers of membership and subscriptions start at £1,000 a year.
