"THE leaders of seven successful European culture bids are to visit Liverpool.
Directors of the campaigns for Glasgow, Brussels, Antwerp, Stockholm, Copenhagen, Helsinki and Gratz will visit Merseyside on November 17 and 18.
They will meet heads of Liverpool's successful Capital of Culture bid for 2008.
The experiences of the former cities of culture are seen as vital to Liverpool in planning for 2008.
Sir Bob Scott, executive chairman of the Liverpool Culture Company, said: "This bringing together of directors from former winning cities has never happened before.
"It will make for a fantastic lesson in the do's and don'ts of devising a successful programme."
All the previous winners, including Gratz in Austria which holds the title this year, claim to have been transformed by taking Europe's top cultural accolade.
Sir Bob said: "We will be able to hear at first hand the experiences of those who have had successful campaigns."
Meanwhile, there has been some re-adjustment of the Liverpool festival themes for the years leading up to 2008.
The Year of the Arts in 2005 will now become The Year of the Sea, to tie in with a wider national celebration of the bicentenary of the Battle of Trafalgar.
The original Year of Sport for 2006 will now be The Year of Performance, combining arts and sports.
Liverpool Football club's new stadium is due to open in 2006, there will be a Liverpool International Arts biennial, and Hoylake will host golf's Open tournament."
