ONE of Liverpool's most ambitious offices and apartment developments has won £10m in public aid from the The Northwest Development Agency and European Regional Development Funding.
The Unity Project will see the building of twin tower blocks - one 27 storeys and the other 16 storeys - on the site of Richmond House, a 1970s concrete office complex which has just been demolished.

Hey all! Can't wait to see Unity start to rise it'll add greatly to the skyline epescially with the Princes Dock towers and Beetham. I just hope that when the tall buildings policy is drawn up it will still allow buildings greater than 30 stories to be built in the city!

Exactly, we shouldn't be cutting down the size of buildings because they are taller than the Liver we must rember where the Liver building is: a CITY! Don't get me wrong the Liver building is a wonderful building but when you read planning reports for Beetham tower (obvioulsy from before it was built) you see that people complained because a building the same size as the Liver was being built where it is. Are we being a bit over protective?
We have the oppourtunity to create an amazing skyline if the planners could be a bit braver.

Yes, instead of building tiny fat clouds! An amazing sky-line we have already which just gets better by the day! Great to see so much building work in town. Confidence in Liverpool, thats what we like to see!

There's another pciture of Unity in this PDF, it says they are twin 22 storey towers but the residential tower will be 27 storeys. www.residentialreview.co.uk/downloads/resrev_5.pdfIt also mentions the rumours of a 48 storey tower on the King Edwards Pub site by Costco-very close to Beetham 1. It also says that Beetham are looking to build another tower in Liverpool at 40 storeys!

I think the 48 story tower is for the King Edwards Pub and Beetham are supposedly searching for a site for their tower. Still, along with Brunswick Quay developers would appear to be getting more confident!

To put a downer on this........ Liverpool is/was full of high rise's/ towers .. remember Edinburgh tower in Everton, I believe the council moved all the tenants out and sold it to a private companyto renovate, but they rented the flats to asylum seekers, now they areto be sold as private inner-city apartments 100 grand + Exactly who are we re-building the city for ? Thers many things the city needs before more luxery apartments and office blocks Better schools would top my priority's .. I'd dearly love Liverpool and Merseyside to be the regions capital but not at the expense of its citizens .. We seem to be building from the top down, rather than from the bottom up ... I'd better take me prozac and cheer up eh ? ;D Viva la Republic

Thats fair comment but I'd rather see something built rather than nothing and derelict sites in the city centre. City CentreWe are building for the thousands of individuals that live in the city centre and have chosen Liverpool rather than Manchester or Leeds to be their home. As for the rest...well we are seeing some regeneration...Boot Estate...Plus other identified areas that I cant remember the name of Liverpool has had recently the largest school building programme in the country if I'm not mistaken.

Residents' demo over Boot estate delaysAug 18 2004 Liverpool Echo A NEW inquiry is to be held into the Boot estate fiasco. Liverpool councillors have agreed to set up a working party to find out why residents of the Norris Green estate have waited for so long to get new homes. The announcement came after around 100 Boot residents gatecrashed last night's meeting of the housing select committee. Jack Mahon, of the Boot estate tenants' and residents' association, said: "I just hope this inquiry won't be another city council whitewash." Almost two years ago, a regeneration programme, which promised new homes for the 300 residents, collapsed after a string of failures. A new regeneration scheme for the Boot estate is now under way which will see tenants moved into new properties over the next two years. Lib Dem Cllr Ian Phillips, chairman of the housing select committee, said: "I can understand why the residents feel angry, but things are moving forward on the Boot estate." Source: Liverpool Echo

Re: The Boot estate, now thats debatable Kev. If it takes 300 residents storming a planning meeting to get progress.. then so be it But I would'nt call it a success for Liverpool, for the residents ...yes ! In my ald fellas day when the residents were first moved into the estate from slum housing, they were known as the lucky ones for moving into the "sunshine house's" ....... "Sunshine house's" !! I'm not knocking the redevolepment, its what is needed, but I still remember the bombholes in Seacombe, the empty plots in Vauxhall, the prefabs on Scottie rd .. Liverpool and Merseyside has seen some changes, maybe I'm moaning because the city and the area I remember as a kid is about to be lost forever But it seems to me that a certain section of the population is constantly being ignored for the greater good. Take the new schools in Sefton and Knowsley, this is an experiment, they the powers that be are experimenting with Merseysides kids education, are the new schools now learning centres for the community and being a highschool is just part of the buildings function ? I like everyone here wants the best for Merseyside, but I'm never going to applaude actions from a council and planners that I disagree with ....... Take the new Anfield Stadium, building on a public park ......we should be up in arms with the decision to build there ... I better move over and get my voice heard eh? ;D

Protest march in bid to protect city parksAug 11 2004 Liverpool Echo A PROTEST march against construction work in Liverpool's parks is to be held next month. Members of the Campaign for the Protection of Rural England say the council is breaking promises that all parks will be protected. It comes after a series of high-profile rows between residents and Liverpool council over the building of the new Anfield at Stanley Park and the new Kensington Academy next to Newsham Park. The march will start at the Pier Head at midday on Saturday, September 4. Pam Leadbeater, chairwoman of the Liverpool district group of CPRE, said: "One of our main concerns in Merseyside is the loss of public green space in parks. "There appears to be a huge trend towards the building of schools, sports stadia, health facilities and expensive-to-use sports centres on the land which was given by our forebears to the people of their towns. "Despite assurances, councils appear to have little regard for town dwellers to have places of quiet contemplation within walking distance of their homes." Liverpool council says that much more green space will be created as part of the Anfield scheme. A spokesman said: " Kensington Academy is being built on a former council depot which is not open to the public. We have also asked for assurances that the Dixie Dean playing fields will be open to the community." Source: Liverpool Echo

Arnt they only building in a corner of the park? The part which is used for a match day car park and for joyriders in cars and on quads and motor bikes?
I dont know the ins and outs of it but the area needs the regeneration that has been promised due to this new stadium doenst it?
